Billson snubs parliamentary rules and collects extra $75,000

Bruce Billson's apology for his flagrant breach of parliamentary rules is not good enough and he should donate to charity the money he received from a top lobby group while still a member of parliament, Greens democracy spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said.

"What is the point of having rules for MPs and ministers if they can be breached with no consequences," Senator Rhiannon said.

"The Prime Minister's weak leadership is again on display with a third former Coalition government minister blatantly flouting parliamentary rules.

Coalition/Labor frustrate reforms on weak lobbyist rules

Greens spokesperson for democracy Senator Lee Rhiannon says that reports about questionable activities of health industry lobbyists is another reminder of the need for reform of the Lobbying Code of Conduct and political donations. 

“Reports about key health industry players lobbying the government over prostheses list prices are a reminder that we have to strengthen the Lobbying Code of Conduct and enforce strict caps on political donations,” Senator Rhiannon said.
