Senate rejects Greens move to review deceptive free range egg standards

The Liberal, National and Labor parties have voted against a Greens motion calling on the Australian Government to review the Free Range Egg Labelling Information Standard to accurately reflect the density standard of egg-laying chickens, and to ensure that consumers have correct information about stocking densities.
 
Greens spokesperson for animal welfare Senator Lee Rhiannon said, “The Turnbull Government has set a free range egg standard that dupes Australian consumers into thinking that intensive farmed eggs are ‘free range’.
