Bruce Billson's apology for his flagrant breach of parliamentary rules is not good enough and he should donate to charity the money he received from a top lobby group while still a member of parliament, Greens democracy spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said.

"What is the point of having rules for MPs and ministers if they can be breached with no consequences," Senator Rhiannon said.

"The Prime Minister's weak leadership is again on display with a third former Coalition government minister blatantly flouting parliamentary rules.

Greens spokesperson for Democracy Senator Lee Rhiannon has welcomed Labor’s support for a National Integrity Commission in light of the ATO tax fraud scandal.

“Mr Turnbull thinks this case demonstrates the system is working, but it’s astounding that $165 million has already been allegedly defrauded before charges were laid,” said Senator Rhiannon.

“Without a National ICAC, the public will still be wondering if charges could have been laid earlier and if existing bodies have all the necessary powers of deterrence and investigation.

Turnbull failed to heed ICAC – promoting Sinodinos another PM blunder

The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s decision to promote Senator Arthur Sinodinos in his mini Cabinet reshuffle reflects the PM’s arrogance and poor judgement, Greens industry spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said.

“It is extraordinary that the Prime Minister has promoted Mr Sinodinos in light of his role as a company director and his dubious evidence at ICAC hearings,” Senator Rhiannon said.

Greens spokesperson for democracy Senator Lee Rhiannon says Vicland property donations to One Nation, as well as Liberal, Labor and Family First parties, are a blatant example of money being used to buy political influence.
 
New research completed by the Greens Democracy for Sale project compared two party preferred polling figures with total donations declared in an election period. In elections where a particular party was expected to win government, donations favoured those parties.
