Big win for animals - cruelty free cosmetics bill starts journey into law

The introduction into the federal parliament of legislation that takes the first step towards ending the testing of cosmetics on animals is a great credit to the nationwide community and Greens campaign, Senator Lee Rhiannon the Greens animal welfare spokesperson said. 

“It is significant that the federal government is now backing a bill that will bring Australia closer to the European Union’s ban on cosmetic animal testing and the Greens End Cruel Cosmetics Bill,” Senator Rhiannon said.

Cruel cosmetics will not end under Turnbull election stunt

The Turnbull government budget announcement on cruel cosmetics is a deceptive ploy designed to win votes at the next election, Greens animal welfare spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said.

“The federal government’s cosmetic testing budget allocation is a publicity stunt that won’t end cosmetics tested on animals being sold in Australia,” Senator Rhiannon said.

Animal welfare supported - no cruel cosmetics motion passes Senate

In a positive step for animal welfare the Australian Senate has passed a motion that recognises the importance of ending the import and manufacture of cruel cosmetics.

The motion was supported by all parties and most crossbenchers.

Greens animal welfare spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said "Now we have cross party support we need to pass legislation to ban all animal-tested cosmetics and ingredients.

"I recognise and thank Senator Anne Ruston for her commitment to the issue of ending animal-tested cosmetics and ingredients.
