After 300 days, Payne visits Williamtown to pass the buck

Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon and Greens candidate for Paterson John Brown have commented on Defence Minister’s visit to Williamtown yesterday. 

Senator Rhiannon said, “Almost three hundred days after Williamtown residents and workers had their lives turned upside down by the RAAF contamination crisis, Minister Payne decided to front up to them at Williamtown. 

“It is very hard not to see this as a cynical box-ticking exercise eleven days out from the election.

Carol Vernon remains as Cowper candidate - strong campaign continues

NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon has wished her dear friend and Greens candidate for Cowper Carol Vernon a speedy recovery to good health.

"It is with concern and sadness that we announce that our Greens candidate for Cowper Carol Vernon will have surgery on Tuesday 21 June," said Senator Rhiannon.

"I am really pleased that Carol will remain as the Greens candidate for Cowper in this election as her prognosis is positive.

"Carol's hard work, depth of understanding of Greens policies and organising abilities have been real assets to grassroots democracy.

Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon and Greens candidate for Whitlam Tom Hunt have commented on Liberal candidate for Whitlam Dr Carolyn Currie’s decision to pull out of the election 13 days after she was declared a candidate. 

“This is a broader pattern we are noticing right across the country as we get stuck into campaigning – the huge discrepancy between what communities want and expect of their local representatives, and what Labor, Liberal and National candidates are able to promise them.

Greens call on Illawarra Labor – put young casuals first, back penalty rate protection

Greens Cunningham candidate Cath Blakey and Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon are calling on Illawarra Labor branches and MPs to support union and Greens plans to protect penalty rates through legislation. 

“Protecting penalty rates is a huge issue for young people living in the Illawarra as most rely on casual work,” Ms Blakey said. 

“The Greens plan to protect penalty rates by moving legislation in the next parliament will help provide certainty to all locals who rely on casual work.

Ground breaking report sets secure future for south east forests

Greens Eden Monaro candidate Tamara Ryan and Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon have strongly backed a ground breaking report by the NSW National Parks Association that details how the Regional Forests Agreements have failed.

“The NPA Report sets out clear evidence of why the RFAs have failed to protect forests and provides a path that will save our south east forests,” Ms Ryan said. 

“The big RFA lie that successive federal and state governments have used to justify destructive logging of south east forests has now been exposed.
