Labor takes millions from casinos; fails to support Senate inquiry into casinos

Labor’s decision to not support a Senate inquiry into casinos after two decades of accepting millions of dollars of donations from the industry reflects poorly on Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, Senator Lee Rhiannon, Greens gambling spokesperson said.

“The only thing stopping a full Senate inquiry into casinos is the Labor Party,” Senator Rhiannon said.

", but the Senate notes this Bill is likely to lead to an expansion of the Australian gambling market through in-play betting in TABs, clubs and licenced premises and questions the rationale for such an approach in light of Labor and Liberal parties having received $10,460,819 in political donations from gambling interests over the past ten years.".

Historic NSW victory shows it’s time to ban greyhound racing across Australia – Greens launch national campaign

Following the historic NSW decision to ban greyhound racing the Australian Greens have launched a national campaign to ban greyhound racing in all states and territories.   

Senator Lee Rhiannon joined ACT Greens spokesperson for animal welfare Caroline Le Couteur in Canberra to celebrate the victory and launch the national campaign. 

“The historic win in NSW has given great encouragement to us that we can win a nationwide ban,” said Senator Rhiannon.
