Greens spokesperson for housing Senator Lee Rhiannon has commented on reports that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Treasurer Scott Morrison argued in cabinet to tighten negative gearing concessions.
“The Turnbull government’s devotion to negative gearing is locking thousands of first home-owners out of the housing market.
“Reports that Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison argued in cabinet to tighten negative gearing concessions, but were rolled by the more conservative voices in their party, highlights how little control the Prime Minister has over government decisions.
“Prime Minister Turnbull’s problem, and his government’s problem, is that he does not have the guts to fight for critically needed reforms.
“I will work hard to keep housing affordability on the agenda, and to promote the Greens plan for a complete phase out of negative gearing and capital gains tax discounts,” Senator Rhiannon said.
