Time to shut down secret donation clubs - North Sydney, Warringah and Wentworth Forum

Commenting on Professor Ian Harper's decision to pull out from speaking at the North Sydney Forum Greens democracy spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said:

"If Mr Abbott is serious about cleaning up the dirty politics of the NSW Liberals, he should shut down his party's secret fundraising bodies - North Sydney, Warringah and Wentworth Forum.

"The North Sydney, Warringah and Wentworth Forums effectively sell access to the three of the most powerful politicians in Australia.

"Wealthy individuals and companies donate money to election campaigns through these shady organisations with inadequate public scrutiny. This is unacceptable.

"These fundraising bodies are secretive and suspect. Mr Abbott and Mr Hockey are offering special access to wealthy donors, and they have refused calls to release the names of those involved.

"If the Prime Minister wants to put a distance between himself and the growing NSW Liberal Party political donation scandal, he should shut these secret, shady forums down.
