The Greens strongly support the day of action to retain public housing and public land in Sydney.
“The Greens want to introduce affordable housing supply bonds to urgently boost the supply of community and public housing,” Greens spokesperson for housing Senator Lee Rhiannon said.
“The attack on public and community housing happens at a state and federal level – the federal government has abandoned funding, and state governments including the Baird government are happy to sell off public housing and public land.
“The Greens are committed to standing with the supporters of public housing to resist these attacks.
“Last year only 200 extra public houses were made available in Australia, and yet we know that just 0.02% of rental properties were affordable for those who rely on Newstart to live and only 2% of rental properties were affordable for an individual on a minimum wage.
“We heard some very good news yesterday that the CFMEU will implement a Green Ban for the Sirius building, an important piece of Sydney’s cultural and social heritage, but more importantly a home to public housing tenants.
