Regional and rural NSW big losers in Turnbull-Nationals deal
Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon says the Turnbull-Nationals deal is not in the best interests of regional and rural NSW.
"This deal has been struck to protect the new Prime Minister's leadership not to assist rural communities," said Senator Rhiannon.
"Prime Minister Turnbull's plan to put the Nationals in control of water policy, to keep young people off income support for four weeks at a time and to not change Abbott's minimalist approach on climate change will make life tougher for regional and rural communities.
"Changes to support social services that are already severely underfunded is bad policy.
"People know that it is wrong to take young people off income support. This results in hardship and alienation, particularly as there are few jobs in much of rural and regional NSW.
"The Prime Minister's rigid support for Abbott's climate denying policies panders to the climate sceptics in the Nationals but does not help regional and rural NSW.
"Prime Minister Turnbull has let down regional and rural NSW just one day into the top job," Senator Rhiannon said.
