The Australian Greens spokesperson for higher education Senator Lee Rhiannon has called on the Minister for Education Christopher Pyne to release his Department’s modelling on the impact of the government’s $5 billion university cuts.
“In Senate estimates today Education Department officials confirmed they had undertaken modelling for the Minister but it hasn’t been publicly released,” Senator Rhiannon said.
“Hundreds of thousands of students, future student and graduates have used the Greens’ new whatwillmydegreecost.com.au website to estimate the financial impact of the government’s regressive changes to university funding.
“This indicates enormous interest in the community to better understand these changes.
“We decided to build our calculator because the Mr Pyne refused to release government modelling on the impact of these cuts.
“If government sources are now questioning the accuracy of the Greens calculations (http://bit.ly/1kvPoFu) they should release their modelling and reveal to the public the full impact of their cuts,” Senator Rhiannon said.
