Lee Rhiannon’s share in a uranium mining company
Lee Rhiannon made a personal explanation at 3.35pm today to the Senate in response to comments made by Senator Williams during Motions to Take Note of Answers.
I have declared one share in Energy Resources Australia. During my 11 years as an MP in the NSW Parliament and since I was elected to the Senate I have declared my one share in my pecuniary interest statement. I bought it so I could attend the AGMs of ERA to speak to shareholders about the dangers of the uranium industry. Shareholder action is a common tactic of those campaigning for environmental protection, workplace rights and social justice. I will continue to support such activism and work hard to promote Greens policies despite the attempts to intimidate that Coalition MPs engage in. Senators Sinodinos, Williams and Macdonald are wasting the valuable time of the Senate.
