Greens back campaign to clean up factory

Media Release
Lee Rhiannon 20 Feb 2012

Greens back campaign to clean up factory farming Australian Greens Senator and animal welfare spokesperson Lee Rhiannon today congratulated Voiceless for their campaign to clean up factory farming and end the cruel conditions many domestic animals are subjected to.

"The Voiceless campaign for the animals will help put pressure on the Australian government to improve the lives of farm animals," Senator Rhiannon said.

"Australian standards for rearing pigs and chickens lag behind those in the European Union.

"Public opinion is the key to government's finding the conviction to change the law. This campaign will help mobilise the concern that most people feel when they see animals mistreated.

"The Greens will be encouraging our members and supporters to back the call to clean up factory farming.

"I receive a great deal of correspondence, mainly emails, from people distressed about animal cruelty.

"Voiceless' work for animals is helping to drive the change we need," Senator Rhiannon said.
