Gas giant AGL outflanks Labor & Coalition on political donations

Media Release
Lee Rhiannon 27 Aug 2015

Commenting on AGL's decision to end all political donations (, Greens spokesperson for democracy Senator Lee Rhiannon said: "Even if AGL finally understands why corporate political donations are so problematic, what's taking the Coalition and Labor so long?

"In the past five years the minerals industry has donated more than $5 million, the gambling industry $4 million and the property industry more than $9 million to political parties.

"Unless Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Labor's Bill Shorten take leadership and support the Greens push to ban political donations from developers, tobacco, alcohol, gambling and mining industries, the political scandals we have seen brought before ICAC will continue to rock both parties.
