Badgerys Creek no solution to Sydney Airport woes

Media Release
Lee Rhiannon 23 Apr 2012

Badgerys Creek, like Wilton, lies inside the Sydney Basin Airshed and is a non-solution to Sydney's airport dilemmas despite what the head of Qantas Alan Joyce says, said Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon said.

"Sydney Airport needs to be relocated to a new airport outside the Sydney Basin Airshed. It's time the government established a genuine process to identify a suitable site," Senator Rhiannon said.

"The Federal Labor and Coalition governments have ruled out Badgerys Creek and to name it as an option is simply game playing.

"Until a new site is found for a replacement for Sydney Airport right outside the Sydney Basin Airshed there will be no end to suffering for those Sydney residents plagued by noise and air pollution.

"Oslo, Athens, Bangkok and Hong Kong have successfully relocated urban airports to outside their busy cities. With political will, Sydney can do it too," says Senator Rhiannon.
