Greens launch arts plan - reverses Coalition cuts, helps artists make a living

Today Senator Lee Rhiannon and Greens candidate for Wentworth Dejay Toborek launched the Greens arts policy initiative for NSW at the historic Bondi Pavilion. They were joined by Peter O'Doherty, musician with Australian band Dog Trumpet who is supporting the Greens initiative.

"The Greens have a plan not only to reverse the Coalition's deep cuts to the arts sector, but to invest a further $270.2 million over the next four years," said Senator Rhiannon.

Greens launch report calling for improved protection for the Royal National Park and Coastal Upland Hanging Swamps

NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon will join Greens Cunningham candidate Cath Blakey and Hughes candidate Phil Smith to launch the ‘Protecting our precious environment' campaign.

The campaign calls for improved environmental protections for the Royal National Park and Coastal Upland Hanging Swamps.

The state-wide campaign and release of a 30 page comprehensive report on NSW's diverse natural environments and the dangers they face is supported by former Greens parliamentary leader Bob Brown.

Coalition-Labor back animal cruelty - Govt vet alleged removal exposes latest live export scandal

The alleged removal of a senior live export veterinarian from her job with the Department of Agriculture reveals the level of control the live export industry has over the Turnbull-Joyce government, Greens animal welfare spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said.

The ABC's 7.30 report "Vet removed for exposing appalling conditions on live export ships" was screened last night.

Carol Vernon remains as Cowper candidate - strong campaign continues

NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon has wished her dear friend and Greens candidate for Cowper Carol Vernon a speedy recovery to good health.

"It is with concern and sadness that we announce that our Greens candidate for Cowper Carol Vernon will have surgery on Tuesday 21 June," said Senator Rhiannon.

"I am really pleased that Carol will remain as the Greens candidate for Cowper in this election as her prognosis is positive.

"Carol's hard work, depth of understanding of Greens policies and organising abilities have been real assets to grassroots democracy.

BREAKING: Live export horror - Turnbull must act

Commenting on tonight's ABC report that shows exported Australian cattle sledgehammered to death, Greens animal welfare spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said:

"The ABC report of the most horrific treatment of live export cattle is sickening, heart breaking and beyond belief.

"Prime Minister Turnbull must respond to Animal Australia's call for urgent intervention to stop this horror.
