World Heritage

Australia currently boasts 41 sites of natural and cultural significance on the global World Heritage list, including Queensland’s Fraser Island, Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics.

The Greens want to see Cape York Peninsula added to the World Heritage list with traditional owner consent, and listing of Tasmania’s spectacular Tarkine forests.

Sadly the Government is falling well short in upholding our international obligations to look after our world heritage. UNESCO have expressed “extreme concern” about the dredging and industrial development in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

The Greens will continue to work for world-class protection and management of our World Heritage Areas.
