Senator RHIANNON: The Australian government is committed to being at the forefront of efforts to empower women and girls and to promote gender equality, particularly in our region, and I know that this is an interest of the minister. One of the 10 performance targets for Australia's aid program is to ensure that more than 80 per cent of investments, regardless of their objectives, will effectively address gender issues. Greens launch domestic violence package in Sydney

Last night in Newtown Greens candidate Sylvie Ellsmore was joined by Senator Larissa Waters, Senator Lee Rhiannon, Greens NSW MP Dr Mehreen Faruqi and Greens women candidates from Blaxland, Banks, Dobell, Warringah and Watson to launch the Greens package to end domestic violence.

It is very heartening to be amongst so many friends, comrades, fellow activists and strong women this evening.

We are here tonight to recognise and celebrate the women activists and communities who have stood up and fought against developer and government corruption,

who have stood up and fought powerful interests in order to protect the rights of working class people to live in the inner city communities they helped build.
