Greens call for construction-led south-east stimulus package

Victoria, South Australia & NSW need an economic stimulus package to create jobs and transition to a clean economy, Greens Deputy Leader and industry spokesperson, Adam Bandt, said today.

Mr Bandt today released ‘Saving south-east Australia', a fully-funded plan to build 77,500 new houses in south-eastern Australia, fast-track high-speed rail, provide tax relief to small business and manufacturing and boost research and innovation spending.

Greens oppose Abbott push for privatisation-by-stealth

The Australian Greens are opposing moves by the Abbott Government to implement privatisation by stealth through changes to Infrastructure Australia.

The Abbott government is planning to change the governance model for Infrastructure Australia in a move that would open the door to cutting spending on much needed infrastructure, particularly public transport.

NSW public transport poor cousin of federal budget

Australian Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon has raised concerns that the budget leak revealing a $3.6 billion boost for the Pacific Highway suggests NSW public transport upgrades have again been neglected by the federal Labor government (SMH today).

"The Greens welcome programs that make our roads safer. This can be more effectively achieved by also expanding public rail and bus projects," Senator Rhiannon said.

Badgerys Creek no solution to Sydney Airport woes

Badgerys Creek, like Wilton, lies inside the Sydney Basin Airshed and is a non-solution to Sydney's airport dilemmas despite what the head of Qantas Alan Joyce says, said Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon said.

"Sydney Airport needs to be relocated to a new airport outside the Sydney Basin Airshed. It's time the government established a genuine process to identify a suitable site," Senator Rhiannon said.

"The Federal Labor and Coalition governments have ruled out Badgerys Creek and to name it as an option is simply game playing.
