Greens attend Cruelty Free Festival NSW

Greens animal welfare spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon will attend the Cruelty Free Festival NSW this weekend, jointly hosted by Animal Liberation. Greens NSW have a stall at the festival. 
 
Senator Rhiannon said, “The growing interest and attendance at Cruelty Free Festivals shows there is overwhelming public demand for humane and accountable treatment of animals. Successive governments have failed to reflect that sentiment, and refused to change the disgracefully inadequate minimum animal welfare standards in many industries.

Federal, state Greens statement on NSW greyhound racing ban reversal

The decision of the major parties to back the continuation of the greyhound industry in NSW is tragic. It is a setback. But in recent months there have also been considerable achievements as more people have become aware of the need to shut down this cruel industry. 

Sadly for now the suffering of thousands of animals will continue. But it is inevitable that greyhound racing in Australia will end. There are only eight countries where this cruel sport continues on a commercial scale.

Urgent need for a national ban on greyhound racing

Greens spokesperson for animal welfare Senator Lee Rhiannon has commented on reports that the NSW ban on greyhounds is at risk of a constitutional challenge. Senator Rhiannon says that a national ban on greyhound racing is needed to secure the recent ban in NSW.

“The time for a nationwide ban on greyhound racing is now. Such a ban would nullify the effect of any constitutional challenge.
